Cloud infrastructure, AI inference, and agent services for developers building applications.

What is DigitalOcean?

DigitalOcean is a cloud platform for building, deploying, and operating applications and AI workloads. It combines CPU and GPU compute, managed Kubernetes, databases, storage, and application hosting with model inference and agent services.

Developers can run infrastructure directly or use managed services for serving models and operating agents. The AI stack connects agent execution, evaluation, data retrieval, and inference, with support for open models and tools. Several agent capabilities are in public preview, while Agent Data Services is in private preview.

What can DigitalOcean do?

Compute and application hosting

CPU and GPU Droplets, Managed Kubernetes, App Platform, and Functions provide options for running virtual machines, container workloads, hosted applications, and functions.

Model inference and routing

Serverless, dedicated, and batch inference support hosted models or your own model. An OpenAI-compatible endpoint handles model access, and the Inference Router, in public preview, selects models per request.

Isolated agent execution

Harness Runtime provides dedicated Firecracker microVM sessions for AI coding agents. Sessions can be paused, resumed, checkpointed, and forked, with agents supplied as container templates.

Agent monitoring and evaluation

Insights records agent activity, Signals identifies shortcomings, and Evaluations tests changes, including simulations. Insights and Signals are in public preview; the learning services support OpenTelemetry.

Managed data and retrieval

Managed Databases, Knowledge Bases, and Vector Databases support relational and retrieval workloads. Listed database technologies include PostgreSQL, MySQL, Valkey, and OpenSearch.

Storage and recovery

Volumes provide block storage with snapshots. Droplet backups create automatic disk images, starting with a full backup and using incremental backups afterward.

Use Cases

“Deploy an application backend”

Combine compute or application hosting with managed databases and storage to run an application and maintain its persistent data.

“Serve AI models in production”

Choose serverless, dedicated, or batch inference to support interactive model requests or process larger groups of requests.

“Run AI coding sessions”

Execute containerized coding agents in isolated sandboxes, checkpoint their progress, and fork sessions to explore separate approaches.

“Improve a support agent”

Use recorded agent activity to identify failures, then test proposed changes with evaluations and simulations before adopting them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the agent services generally available?

Managed Agents, Harness Runtime, Action Gateway, and Plano MicroVMs are listed in public preview. Agent Data Services is listed in private preview.

What pricing examples are listed?

Harness Runtime starts at $0.0535 per hour. Volumes cost $10 per month for 100 GiB, $50 for 500 GiB, and $100 for 1,000 GiB. Volume snapshots cost $0.06 per GiB per month.

How do Droplet backups differ from snapshots?

Backups run automatically; snapshots are created manually and kept until deleted. Percentage-based daily backups cost 30% of the Droplet cost with seven-day retention; weekly backups cost 20% with four-week retention. Usage-based backups support custom retention from three days to six months.

How does billing work?

Billing is monthly, typically charging the primary payment method on the first day for the previous month's usage. Usage thresholds can trigger earlier charges. Billing alerts can email you when monthly spending exceeds a chosen amount.
