Reactive reads and transactional writes
Queries are cached and subscribable, so connected clients receive updated results when relevant data changes. Mutations update the database transactionally.
Build live web and mobile applications with a reactive database, JavaScript or TypeScript functions, and managed backend services.
Convex is a reactive database and backend platform for web, mobile, and AI-enabled applications. Write server functions in JavaScript or TypeScript, store application data, and subscribe clients to live query results. Mutations run as transactions, while actions can call external APIs.
Managed hosting combines the database, functions, deployment tools, and usage metering. Self-hosting is also available for teams prepared to operate their own backend and follow the backend licence.

Expose backend logic through client APIs, use actions for external services, and define HTTP actions for webhooks or custom clients.
Keep application records and files in one backend, with text and vector search for retrieving relevant content. Resource allowances and overage charges vary by plan.
Use crons and components for background jobs, durable workflows, and agent threads or context. Model calls connect to selected external services; their availability and charges remain separate.
Build shared task lists, chats, or activity feeds that update as users change application data.
Connect React, Next.js, or React Native clients to the same database and server functions.
Store conversation state, retrieve relevant records, and run background work around external model calls.
Free includes limited resources. Starter begins at US$0/month with metered usage beyond those allowances. Professional is US$25 per developer/month plus applicable overages; Business and Enterprise start at a US$2,500 monthly minimum. Taxes are additional, and resource usage is measured across the team’s projects. Paid subscriptions renew automatically, and fees are generally non-refundable. Notice periods and termination follow the order form and service terms.
Convex sends notifications as limits approach. Extended excess usage on Free can cause function calls to return HTTP errors. Starter and Professional can incur metered charges, so the included resources are not unlimited usage.
Yes. The backend uses FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0, which restricts competing commercial services. Each version receives an additional Apache-2.0 licence two years after it becomes available. Self-hosting means managing your own infrastructure; it is separate from a managed subscription.
Customer Data is governed by the service agreement rather than the general website privacy policy. The agreement requires prior written consent for foundation-model training, while connected applications may access data needed for the integrations you choose.
