Decentralized blob storage with verifiable data and developer tools for reading, writing, and managing files.

Что такое Walrus?

Walrus is open-source decentralized storage infrastructure for developers. It stores files as blobs across independent storage nodes and uses Sui to track ownership and storage lifetimes. Applications can retrieve a blob by its content-derived identifier and verify that the retrieved bytes match what was stored. Use the CLI, TypeScript SDK, or supported HTTP upload path to integrate storage into an application. Walrus Console provides an optional managed interface that handles accounts, uploads, and storage renewal. Storage is time-bound, so it requires renewal rather than guaranteeing permanent preservation.

Что умеет Walrus?

Blob storage

Store arbitrary file types in a flat namespace. Erasure coding distributes pieces of each blob across storage servers.

Verifiable retrieval

Use a content-derived blob ID to retrieve data and check its integrity. Sui records storage objects and availability proofs.

Storage lifecycle controls

Choose a storage duration in epochs, extend it using the Sui object ID, and release a blob when it is no longer needed.

Developer access paths

Work through the CLI, TypeScript SDK, HTTP publisher, or upload relay. Mainnet does not offer a public unauthenticated publisher.

Managed Console access

An optional Google or Apple sign-in interface provides folders, API keys, and file uploads encrypted client-side with Seal. Console also connects to MCP-compatible tools.

Варианты использования

“Serving application files”

Write and retrieve application objects through the SDK or a suitable upload interface while managing their storage duration.

“Publishing verifiable datasets”

Give consumers a way to verify that downloaded dataset bytes match the published blob; factual accuracy still depends on the original data.

“Connecting data to AI applications”

Use managed files with supported AI tools, or build an agent’s data layer on the underlying storage protocol.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

How do I begin building with Walrus?

Start with the Testnet guide: install the CLI, configure the network and Sui account, obtain test tokens, then store and read a file. Keep both the blob ID for reading and the Sui object ID for storage updates. For production, choose the SDK, an upload relay, or a private authenticated Mainnet publisher.

What are the costs and free limits?

Direct Mainnet storage uses WAL for storage payments and SUI for transaction fees. Testnet uses valueless test tokens and may wipe data. Console is currently available without charge, with up to 5 GB per space, five folders, and 100 MiB per upload; its free access and limits can change. Console has no guaranteed permanent free tier.

Is all Walrus data private?

Anyone with a blob ID can read the underlying blob bytes. Encrypt sensitive content before storing it. Console encrypts uploaded file content on your device with Seal, but limited metadata such as file names, types, and sizes remains unencrypted.

How long does storage last?

Storage lasts for the epochs purchased. Mainnet epochs are two weeks; Testnet epochs are one day. Extend storage before it expires. Console currently renews active accounts on a reasonable-efforts basis, which can be changed or discontinued. Expired data can be permanently lost; keep independent copies.

Does verification prove content is accurate?

Verification establishes that retrieved bytes match the stored content and that storage is available. It does not establish that a dataset, claim, or AI output is factually correct.

Does deleting a file erase every copy?

No. Deleting a Console item removes it from your account, but underlying protocol data may remain until its storage term ends. The protocol cannot guarantee removal of caches, old storage-node pieces, or copies made by other users.

Does Walrus run the AI agent for me?

Walrus supplies storage. Walrus Memory is a separate layer built on it for persistent agent context. Console can display connected memory metadata, while memory management remains in the Walrus Memory dashboard. Neither storage verification nor the connection itself guarantees an agent’s output quality.
