Retold is a family memory app for recording spoken stories and turning them into short illustrated films. A storyteller records directly on a phone, and Retold creates drawings timed to the recording while keeping the original voice audible.
The app is designed for families who want to preserve personal memories such as childhood experiences, how relatives met, or familiar family anecdotes. Completed stories are placed on a private family shelf, where relatives can watch them from supported iPhone or Android phones, wherever they live.

Retold listens to the recording and sketches the story into a short film. The drawings are timed to the storyteller’s narration, while the recording remains in the storyteller’s real voice.
Stories are stored on a private family shelf after the storyteller signs in with Apple or email. Family members can sign in on a supported phone and watch the available stories.
If a drawing mishears a word or depicts something inaccurately, users can open the story and report the drawing from within the app. The service says these private reports help improve the drawings.
The shelf can hold up to five stories for free. Retold Plus allows families to keep unlimited stories on the shelf; stories already made remain watchable if the subscription ends.
Hand a phone to a grandparent or another family storyteller and let them recount childhood, work, relationships, or everyday experiences without requiring a typed family-history project.
Relatives who live in different places can sign in to the family shelf and watch saved stories in the original storyteller’s voice, making it useful for families separated by distance.
Parents and children can replay illustrated stories at bedtime, including familiar anecdotes that younger relatives may not otherwise hear directly from the storyteller.
A family can capture a single story without planning a long interview. The guide also provides shorter, gentler question ideas for situations where someone is ill or very old.

Open the story and tap the option to report a drawing. Retold says that private reports can be used to improve the result without leaving the app.
Stories already made remain yours and stay watchable after the subscription ends. Plus continues until the end of the paid period after cancellation.
Long-press a story on the shelf to delete it, which also removes it from Retold’s servers. To delete the account and every recording, use the in-app account deletion setting or contact Retold by email.
