Existing browser workspaces
Continue developing projects in an existing cloud workspace through Firebase Studio during the transition period. New workspaces and new user signups are disabled.
Continue work in existing cloud workspaces and export your code before Firebase Studio shuts down.
Project IDX’s development workspaces now continue in Firebase Studio. The original workspaces, settings, and sharing URLs remain supported, but new user signup and new workspace creation have been disabled since June 22, 2026.
Existing users can continue working until March 22, 2027, when Firebase Studio is scheduled to shut down and remaining workspace data will be permanently deleted. Export or migrate projects before that date. The development environment still provides browser-based coding, Gemini assistance, and app previews for existing workspaces.

Use Gemini assistance for coding, debugging, testing, refactoring, explanations, and documentation within the workspace.
Use built-in web previews and Android emulators to review apps during development.
Download a local ZIP of your project source before shutdown, or use the documented migration paths to move development elsewhere.
Continue editing and previewing an existing IDX workspace while preparing its code for another development environment.
Export project files before March 22, 2027 so you can maintain the application after the workspace service ends.
Use the official migration instructions for a code-first environment, a browser prototyping environment, or another platform. Review deployment configuration separately from moving source files.
Project IDX became Firebase Studio. Its existing workspaces, settings, and sharing URLs continue there. Firebase Studio is now being sunset; this page concerns the original workspace product, not a replacement IDE or the entire Firebase backend platform.

Migrate or export your projects before March 22, 2027. On that date Firebase Studio is scheduled to shut down, and remaining workspace data will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
In an existing workspace, use Move now > Zip and Download. You can also use the Firebase Studio: Zip & Download command from Code View. Only the workspace creator can use Move now; users of a shared workspace can manually export code from Code View.
The sunset applies to the Firebase Studio development environment. Core services such as Cloud Firestore, Authentication, and App Hosting continue outside it. Moving the development environment may still require reviewing publishing configuration.
No. Agent chat history is not part of the default exported ZIP. The migration guide provides a separate export procedure for history stored in the workspace’s .idx/ai directory.
