A multimodal AI API with SDK, CLI and authenticated MCP tools for building applications.

O que é Pollinations?

Pollinations provides model generation and embedding services for developer-built applications. Send prompts and compatible media inputs through its API, use an OpenAI-compatible SDK, or work through the Polli CLI and hosted MCP tools.

Choose a model by its supported inputs and outputs. Generation requires a Pollinations key and uses a Pollen wallet; key permissions and budgets control access. Apps can obtain user-authorised access to each user’s wallet instead of paying for every user centrally.

O que Pollinations pode fazer?

Text and embedding APIs

Generate chat responses or embeddings from text using documented endpoints. OpenAI-compatible SDKs can connect by changing the base URL and supplying a Pollinations key.

Multimodal generation

Use compatible models for images, audio, video and 3D assets. Model capabilities determine which media inputs and request options are accepted.

Terminal workflows

Use Polli to generate text or media, pass stdin as context, save outputs to files and request machine-readable JSON. Authenticate before generation.

Agent tools over MCP

Connect a Streamable HTTP client to authenticated hosted tools for model discovery, generation and permitted account queries. Tools respect the calling key’s model access and budget.

User-funded app access

Register an App Key and obtain a scoped user key through authorisation. Users control their balance, spending budget and revocation; app owners can optionally enable earnings.

Casos de uso

“Build a generation feature”

Send an application’s prompts or compatible media to a selected model and use the returned text, vectors or media output.

“Repeat a terminal task”

Pass a document as stdin context, ask for a summary and save the response, or generate a media file with an appropriate model.

“Give an agent model tools”

Connect the authenticated Pollinations MCP server so an agent can discover compatible models and request outputs within the configured key permissions.

“Let app users control spend”

Use the wallet-authorisation flow to let users approve their own Pollen spending and revoke access later.

Perguntas frequentes

Do generation requests need a key?

Yes. Generation requires a Pollinations API key; public model listing does not. Keep personal developer secret keys on the server. New browser/mobile apps should use user-wallet authorisation rather than legacy raw publishable generation keys.

Can any model accept my uploaded image?

No. Select a model whose input capabilities include images. Some text-only models ignore an image attachment. Polli’s image-input options use public HTTP(S) URLs, so local files must be uploaded before that workflow can use them.

How is usage controlled?

Requests use Pollen according to the selected model or tool’s rate. Configure model access and a key budget. Usage records show costs; a budgeted key’s reported balance is its remaining budget, while broader account access requires the relevant permission.

Are MCP-generated media links private?

They are unlisted links, and anyone with the URL can access the media. Polli uploads also return publicly accessible URLs. Account-key permissions do not turn those media URLs into private files.

How do app earnings work?

Earnings are optional per App Key. When enabled, users pay a 25% markup over the base request rate, credited to the developer’s balance. User approval, budgets and revocation still apply.
