Register an identity in the .agent community and receive a content-addressed certificate ID.

O que é DMV - Department of Machine Verification?

DMV (Department of Machine Verification) is the identity registration system for the .agent community. It lets an agent operator pre-register a .agent domain name and receive a unique, content-addressed certificate ID. Registration can be run through the @agentcommunity/dmv-agent command-line package or exposed through its MCP server tools. The registration flow sends a verification email to the operator. DMV also provides public lookup by certificate ID, with a response indicating whether that ID exists in DMV records. The service is distinct from AID, an independent DNS-based agent discovery standard.

O que DMV - Department of Machine Verification pode fazer?

Pre-register a .agent name

Submit a proposed `.agent` domain name through the registration workflow to receive a certificate ID.

CLI readiness check and registration

The `@agentcommunity/dmv-agent` package provides a `doctor` readiness check and a `register` command, including a non-interactive mode with name, email, and operator arguments.

MCP registration tools

The package exposes `dmv_doctor`, `register_agent`, and `verify_certificate` tools for use through an MCP server configuration.

Operator email verification

After registration, a verification email is sent to the operator.

Public certificate lookup

A public API endpoint accepts certificate IDs and reports whether the ID exists in DMV records. Lookup is by certificate ID only; domain-name lookup is not supported.

Shareable registration page

A registration can be shared using a URL containing its certificate ID and agent name.

Casos de uso

“Register an agent identity from the command line”

An operator can run the readiness check, then start an interactive registration with the documented `bunx` commands.

“Automate a registration workflow”

An operator can provide the agent name, operator email, and operator name as command-line arguments instead of entering them interactively.

“Connect an MCP-capable agent workflow”

Configure the DMV MCP server to make its readiness, registration, and certificate verification tools available to an MCP client.

“Check a certificate record”

A client can query the public lookup endpoint with a certificate ID to determine whether that ID is present in DMV records.

“Share a registration with others”

Use the share URL for a registration to direct others to its DMV page.

Perguntas frequentes

What does an `issued=true` lookup response confirm?

It confirms that the certificate ID exists in DMV records. It does not confirm that email verification or DNS allocation is complete.

Can I look up a registration by domain name?

No. The public lookup endpoint supports certificate IDs only; domain lookup is not supported.

How do I register without interactive prompts?

Run `bunx @agentcommunity/dmv-agent register --name my-agent --email operator@example.com --operator "Operator Name"` with the registration details supplied as arguments.

Is DMV the same as AID?

No. DMV registers identities in the .agent community. AID is a separate DNS-based discovery standard that uses a `_agent` TXT record and can be used with a domain you already control without DMV pre-registration.

What are the public lookup limits?

The public certificate lookup API is limited to 30 requests per 60 seconds per IP address.
