Deduplicated story events
Coverage of the same story is grouped into one event instead of producing many near-identical article rows. Events include corroboration fields such as newsrooms, source_count, and size.
NewsMCP provides live news search for AI agents through MCP or a plain REST API. It groups coverage of the same story into deduplicated events so agents can assess news without filling their context windows with near-duplicate articles.
NewsMCP is a live news search service for AI agents. It returns deduplicated story events rather than a flat article list, grouping coverage of the same story and attaching corroboration data such as independent newsroom counts, source counts, and event size.
It supports a stateless streamable HTTP MCP endpoint and a plain REST API. Agents can use it for recent news questions, claim-coverage checks, trend discovery, and monitoring a company or topic across a short time window. It is not a general web search tool: article body text is not returned, and older or non-news queries may fall outside its day-based index.

Connect through the stateless streamable HTTP MCP endpoint at mcp.newsmcp.com/mcp or query the REST twin at api.newsmcp.com/v0/news. The REST surface returns the same data without a JSON-RPC envelope.
The service exposes news search, get_story, check_coverage, check_limits, and check_health tools. get_story can expand an event and optionally return every source link, while check_coverage separates independent reporting from reprints.
MCP responses can be requested as markdown, text, or JSON, with markdown as the default. REST responses are always JSON, making the REST surface suitable for direct programmatic parsing.
No key or signup is required to begin. An API key raises the documented lookback, per-call story allowance, and hourly call budget; the live check_limits tool reports the limits actually applied to the caller.
An AI assistant can search for what happened on a topic in the last day or several days, then present one event per story rather than repeating every outlet's version.
For a statement or developing report, an agent can use check_coverage to distinguish independent newsrooms from domains that only reprinted the same material.
A monitoring workflow can search recent coverage of a company, person, or topic, rank events by corroboration, and identify developments worth further investigation.
An agent can use NewsMCP to find and rank a story, expand the selected event with get_story, and then fetch one of the returned source URLs separately when article text or primary reporting is required.
No. NewsMCP returns story events and source links, not article body text. Use a separate fetch tool to read a source URL after finding the relevant event.
Yes. The service is keyless to start and does not require signup for initial use. Keyless access has lower limits, and datacenter or cloud IPs are blocked without a key.
The default search window is 24 hours. The keyless envelope provides a seven-day lookback, while the documented free key raises the lookback to 14 days. Actual ceilings should be checked with check_limits.
No. event_id values are derived from cluster membership and can change between searches, so they should not be treated as durable identifiers or stored as permanent records.
They provide the same underlying news data but have different parameter conventions. For example, MCP uses from_ and supports subject and response_format, while REST uses from and always returns JSON. The documentation provides the full mapping.
