Edyt is a desktop AI text assistant for macOS and Windows. It works in editable text fields across apps: select a word, sentence, or longer passage, open Edyt's toolbar with a shortcut, and choose an action. The result can be inserted back into the document or copied, keeping the workflow in the app where the text already lives.
Its built-in actions cover rewriting, proofreading, alternative phrasings, explanations, translation, custom prompts, and screen reading. Screen reading extends the workflow to text in PDFs, images, and screenshots that cannot be selected normally. Edyt reads the selected text or dragged screen area on the device, sends only the text being acted on for processing, and says it discards that text after the reply.

Save and organize personal prompts, then run them on selected text through the toolbar or the prompt library. Prompts can also be managed on the web.
Screen reading
Drag over text in a PDF, picture, or screenshot. Edyt uses Apple Vision on Mac and built-in Windows OCR on Windows; the image remains on the device and only recognized text used for the action is sent.
Keyboard-focused workflow
Press Ctrl + Shift + Space to open the toolbar, use the letter shown for an action, and use Enter to insert or copy a result. Individual action shortcuts can be remapped.
Cross-platform settings
Sign-in keeps saved prompts, shortcuts, and action settings available across computers, with shortcuts and action settings stored separately for Mac and Windows.
Privacy-oriented data handling
Text is sent over TLS 1.2 or higher for processing and is not stored or used to train AI models according to Edyt's security documentation. Saved prompts and usage counts remain associated with the account.

Select jargon or dense writing and use Explain for a plain-language explanation, or use Translate to prepare a response in another language while retaining meaning, tone, and structure.

Save a prompt such as a casual-tone or meeting-minutes instruction and run it whenever the same type of transformation is needed.
“Working with non-selectable text”
Drag over a section of a PDF, image, or screenshot to extract readable text on the device and then apply an available action.

Which operating systems does Edyt support?

How do I use Edyt after installation?
Select text in an app and press Ctrl + Shift + Space to open the toolbar. Choose an action with its displayed letter or click it, then insert or copy the result. On Mac, Accessibility permission is required for reading selected text and returning results; Windows requires no extra permission according to the setup guidance.
Can Edyt work with PDFs and images?
Yes. Drag over text in a PDF, picture, or screenshot. Recognition runs on the device using Apple's Vision framework on Mac or built-in Windows OCR on Windows. Mac asks for Screen Recording permission for this capture, while Windows does not require that permission.
What happens to text sent for processing?
Edyt says it sends only the text being acted on over TLS 1.2 or higher, then keeps none of that text after the reply. It also says the text is not sold, shared, logged, or used to train AI models. Its AI provider may briefly hold requests for abuse monitoring under that provider's policy.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan requires no credit card and includes a usage allowance. A Pro plan removes the daily, weekly, and monthly caps; the pricing page says users can upgrade, cancel, or switch plans through the billing page.
